• Inconsistant membership
  • No fixed members
    • Can leave anytime
  • Not all countries in LON
• USA not part of LON
  • Led others to not take LON seriously
  • Policy of Isolationism after WWI

• Membership problems
• Lack of Army
  • Led to LON’s inability to resolve conflicts & stop aggressors
  • Member states unwilling to provide army
• Disorganisation between branches
  • Did not work well together
  • 2/3 majority vote needed to make decisions
  • Authorisation needed unanimous vote by the Council
    • Difficult to obtain unanimous consent for any decision

• Unwilling to disarm
  • Preoccupied with individuals interests rather than collective security
• Did not take the League seriously
  • BR + FR: Pacifcollective securityism and preoccupied with internal matters
  • US’s absence made countries to not take it seriously
• Distrust among the countries
  • League wanted disarmamant
    • League members unwilling to disarm -> want to protect their own interests
